The Arts

The Arts are alive and thriving in Koromiko class. We have an outstanding collection of talented children - artists, musicians, actors, dancers and film-makers.

Last term we learnt about perspective in art. We drew sketches of the buildings that surround our school, then we choose the best elements from these and used them to create a line drawing of a 'cityscape.' Here are some examples:

Seb

One of our classmates, Sebastian Black, had a serious accident while mountain biking last weekend. He fell down a bank and landed on his head. He was in a coma for two days. He has made a good recovery in hospital. He has bruising to his brain and a fracture in his neck. He spent last week in hospital and has now come home. We all hope that he gets better soon because we miss him.

Maths

We’ve been learning so much this term that there has been hardly any time left for writing this blog!

Here are some things we have been learning about in maths:

Measurement - area, volume and perimeter.

Addition and subtraction - fractions and decimals (this is a big step up from 1+1=3!)

Jay put these links on our blog so you can visit them to practise your maths skills:

English

There has been a lot of good reading and writing work carried out in class this term. It is just a shame that, as most of this work is in books or on the classroom walls, most of it doesn’t get seen by a wider audience. So, to answer our problems, I have posted a link under ‘Useful Sites’ which will take you to the student section of English Online, which is the Ministry of Education’s website for English. This has further links to good sites where young people can post their writing so every one who goes on the Internet can read it. If any one is stuck for homework ideas or is just bored, then write a review and publish it. Once this has been done leave a comment on our blog so that other kids at Thorndon School know to go and check your work out. Then, they can give you helpful feedback at school.
